  • Having trouble streaming videos?
    13-07-2016

So you’ve made one of the best decisions that you can make and purchased the Advance Media Android TV Box. We want to say Congratulations and thank you so much, we appreciate your business more than you know!

Now you go to use this amazing device, and all of a sudden, you are having issues with viewing the videos on the box! Not to worry, no need to pull out any hair (for those of us who still have some left). We have amazing customer support available by phone and they are happy to help. BUT, before you take the time and make that call there are a couple of things you should do to help determine the issue and the fix to get you streaming again in NO TIME!

We will go through several common occurrences and how to fix them.

ISSUE #1: A script error or “no stream available” message comes up when I click on a stream in Kodi.

REASON: This is an occurrence that we come across every day when streaming. It’s the nature of the beast so to speak. The developers who make these add-ons write code that will bring MANY streaming sources to one place. Along with all of the great sources comes some that will not work.

SOLUTION: This is an easy fix. We recommend that you try multiple links for streaming. For instance, one of the best add-ons for Movies and TV shows is Exodus. If you try a link that does not work in Exodus, simply try the next one on the list. You WILL find a stream that works. It does take a couple of tries sometimes, but it sure beats paying for cable! Also, please try different add-ons and apps to find the same content. To see which add-ons to check out, read this article we wrote on the best add-ons for every type of content.

ISSUE #2: When I click on the stream I want to watch, the video does not load quickly and I experience buffering.

REASON: There could be a couple of reasons behind this issue. It could be your Internet speed, the distance from your router, or the functionality of the router.

SOLUTION: The first solution has to do with your Internet speed. The easiest way to check your Internet speed is to run the Speed Test App from the home screen. This will be the app with the speedometer icon on the bottom of the home screen. The speeds that we recommend for streaming are as follows:

    • Speeds Down Stream (In Megabits Per Second)
    • SD Minimum 2Mbps
    • SD recommended 5Mbps
    • HD Minimum 5Mbps
    • HD recommended 10Mbps

If you are getting these speeds you should not be having any issues, but if you are still experiencing these issues, try clearing the cache.

To clear the cache in Kodi or other apps:

    1. Click the “settings” tab on the launch screen.
    2. Click the “other” tab at the top of the screen.
    3. Click “more settings”.
    4. Scroll down to the “apps” heading and click that.
    5. Choose the Kodi app (or other apps like showbox, HD cinema, etc.) and choose the “clear cache” option.

*** Under Maintenance – Please clear your cache and purge your packages.

If you are NOT getting these speeds there are a couple of things you can do. First, reset your router by unplugging the router for one minute. During this time also unplug the Element Android TV Box. After the minute is up plug in the router first and then plug in the Advance Media box. This can help increase the speed that the box will get for a WiFi connection.

Second, make sure your box is close to your router. We recommend that the Advance Media box be within 10 feet of your router to ensure you will get the best signal for a WiFi connection.

The last fix for this is to contact your Internet Service Provider to make sure you are getting the speed for which you are paying. They may be experiencing an issue and alerting them can help you get the speed you need. Also, contact your router manufacturer to make sure the router is working correctly to give all of your devices the correct speed.

ISSUE #3: The add-on that I use the most is not working.

REASON: Unfortunately this does happen, and sometimes it happens pretty often. Developers stop working on add-ons for many different reasons. It may be down for good, or you may just have to wait a couple of hours for the next update to fix issues with the add-on.

SOLUTION: Try multiple add-ons! This sounds so simple but it is the best way to find the content you are wanting to stream. Please reference the article in Issue #1 to get a good idea of what add-ons to try.

We really CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH. The Advance Media Android TV Box is an amazing device capable of saving you THOUSANDS of dollars per year. There are certain nuances and things to learn to make the best use of this box. One of the biggest pieces of advice is to try multiple links and multiple add-ons/apps. We will always do our best to assist with troubleshooting the box or point you in the right direction when certain add-ons are not working. However, we DO NOT host, develop, or run any of the add-ons on the box.

We hope that this helps with some of the issues and allows you to spend your time on more fulfilling and important things than talking on the phone with customer service. However, we do know that things change and we also know that there are many other things that users encounter. If you have any ideas on what we should add or any other helpful tips please let us know. Thanks again for your business and thank you for choosing Advance Media tv!

  • My Kodi crashed and won’t start again.
    13-07-2016

Sometimes your Kodi app may crash and no longer load. This is usually due to the cache being full. Normally the cache will empty on its own but if it doesn’t it may crash the Kodi app and you’ll be unable to open it again.

This can be fixed relatively easy. You’ll need to go to the Settings on your Android Box.

    Screenshot_Setting

If you have the old Home Screen, go to “Settings” then to “Other” and then “More Settings”Screenshot_Setting

    • Once in the Settings, go to “Apps”
    • From here select “Kodi” and then go down to the “Clear Cache” button and hit OK.
    • This should free up cache enough to allow you to open Kodi now.
    • You do still need to clear the cache within Kodi itself.
    • Once Kodi starts, go over to PROGRAMS then open the Maintenance Tool.

Go to “General Maintenance” and click OK, then select “Clear Cache” and click OK.

It will ask you if you want to delete the files, select “Yes”

That should fix your Kodi issue. If the issue happens again, simply repeat these steps.

  • How do I fix the buffering?
    13-07-2016

If you’re experiencing issues with buffering or a poor internet connection, you’ll probably want to start by rebooting your Internet connection, generally this helps substantially and it’s recommended that you do so at least once per week.

    1. Unplug the electrical source from both your modem and router.
    2. Verify that no lights remain illuminated on either device. Should there still be anything lit, you’ll need to remove the battery from the hatch door at either the bottom or side of the device.
    3. Wait 15 Minutes, giving your Internet devices time to cool down.
    4. Reconnect the modem first and wait 30 seconds.
    5. Reconnect the router next and wait 30 seconds.
    6. Open a web page on your computer to verify that you’re back online.
    7. Reboot your Advance Medias box and enjoy!

Congratulations! The Internet in your home or office should now be running spectacular. We do this every time we leave the office at the end of the work day (leaving it unplugged overnight).

  • How do I fix the blank screen in Kodi?
    Lloyd13-07-2016

Have you opened Kodi to watch your favorite streams only to find a black screen! This can be very frustrating when you are sitting down to watch a new movie or one of your favorite TV shows.

Not to worry, there is nothing wrong with your Advance Media TV box. If this is happening here is a quick way to fix that and be streaming again in no time:

    1. Click on the “Settings” tab on the launch screen.
    2. Click on “Other” at the top of the screen, then click “More Settings”.
    3. Scroll down and click the “Apps” link.
    4. Click the “Kodi” app.
    5. Click the “force stop” button on the screen, then click the “clear cache”. DO NOT CLICK CLEAR DATA!
    6. AGAIN, DO NOT CLICK CLEAR DATA.

This will fix the blank screen problem if you are having it.

To prevent this from happening again, make sure to properly close the Kodi app when not using it. The way to properly close out of Kodi is to click the “power button” logo in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

  • How do I add shows to my Favorites/My list?
    Lloyd13-07-2016

Shows and Movies can be added using Trakt. Available on AdvanceMedia v3.0 and up.

    What is Trakt?

Trakt is a platform that allows you to keep track of your favourite TV Shows and Movies by integrating with media centres such as Kodi, allowing the data to be scrobbled and updated in real time. Trakt is free to use and takes minutes to setup.  Just open Trakt.tv from any web browser or mobile device to get started!

It can get quite detailed, showing your viewing habits, various stats on things like what genres you tend to watch, how much you’ve watched, ratings of shows and movies based on what other users think, and will also throw in suggestions based on your habits in its ‘Discover’ section in order to further feed your movie and TV Show watching desires.

    image-225x300

Once you open a free account with Trakt, you can add shows to your ‘Watchlist’, and easily mark off the shows you have watched as you get through them.  The beauty of linking a Trakt account with various Kodi add-ons is that it will allow syncing between your add-ons, the built-in Kodi library, and Trakt, so that you are always up to date with whatever you are watching, and on whatever devices you set this up with!  It is quite exciting, as it allows you to create a ‘set it, and forget it’ scenario with your shows, so that you never miss another episode of your favourite show ever again.

    Setup Instructions:

It’s time to configure Trakt. In this tutorial, we’ll be adding Trakt to Exodus, but the process will be similar regardless of what add-on you’re using. Launch Exodus, then select Tools.

    • Then SETTINGS:General.
    • In the top navigation area, move over to Accounts, where you’ll see Trakt as the first listing. Click on Authorization
    • …and a dialog box pops up with a URL. Jot down or snap a photo of this URL and on your computer or mobile device’s browser, input the URL.
    • This will lead you to the Trakt website. If you’ve already logged in, you’ll see a page displaying an eight-digit pin number (otherwise you’ll have to log in to your account before seeing the pin number).
    • Make a note of this pin and return to where you left off in Kodi, and click the Enter Pin button.
    • Type in the pin number and hit Done.
    • This should take you back to the Exodus Settings Account page, where you should now see your Trakt Username in the Authorization box. Voila! Exodus is now configured to access your Trakt account! Hit OK to save your settings.
    • Now that you’ve linked your account, on Exodus’ first page (where you see Movies, TV Shows, Channels, etc.), click on My Lists.
    • Click on TRAKT:Watchlist for your movie selections or TRAKT:TV Watchlist to see any TV shows you’ve added while on the Trakt website.

In addition, you can access your Trakt watchlists from within Exodus’ Movies or TV Shows areas — toward the bottom of the page you’ll see My Lists.

You can also add shows and movies to your watchlist from within Exodus. When you find a show or movie you want to add, bring up the contextual menu (right-click, “hamburger button,” etc. depending upon your Kodi device) and click on Trakt Manager. From here you can add or remove listings.
